There is a duty on the employee to advise the employer of any absences and its duration then to report to work with the necessary proof as required i.t.o. the Basic Condtions of Employment Act that is to provide valid doctor's letters when the employee is well again. If the employee reports for work and is summarily dismissed without a hearing the dismissal would be unfair.
